Electrification
of the KCR
(CR 56/5591/74) TC 125/76 II)
Purpose
To electrify the KCR on the basis of a consultancy study on the modernisation of the railway system.
Progress Made & Present Position
(a) An interim consultancy has been
agreed with Transmark to deal with items critical to the electrification programme if electrified services are to begin by mid-1981,including :- (i) location and design of the
maintenance and stabling depot; (ii) measures necessary for
immunisation against electrical interference systems on and off KCR property;
(iii) the optimum future signalling
and communications system; (iv) detailed specification of
electrical multiple unit
rolling stock;
Advise on items (i), (iii) and (iv)
has been received and processed.
Advice on item (ii) is due about
1.10.78.
Next Quarter Targets
(a) Process
recommendations on immunisation.
(b) On 15th March 1978, Finance Committee (b) Upgrade the
approved
(i)
-
a new item in Category B entitled "Electrification of the KCR Hung Hom to Lo Wu"; (ii) funds for the interim
consultancy.
(c) Transmark's recommendation against a branch line from Fanling to Tuen Mun via Yuen Long has been accepted in principal.
(d) An alternative public transport
solution to a Tsim Sha Tsui under- ground rail'extension is to be investigated.
