To improve the safety standards in the use of boilers and pressure receivers.

To comply fully with the landward safety provisions of ILO Convention No. 32.

Passed by the Legislative Council on 19.7.78.

Target date

Came into effect on 21.7.78.

The Regulations were made by the Commissioner for Labour on 14.7.78. To seek Legislative Council's approval by resolution on 2.8.78.

3rd quarter 1978 in order to give three months' notice.

The Director of Education and the Commissioner for Labour are jointly preparing drafting instructions.

Half-yearly report will be sent to FCO shortly.

End of 1979.

of work and overtime

To consider the possible introduction of a statutory minimum wage for certain low paid occupations.

To consider the introduction of an eight-hour day for all employees with specified overtime rates.

Research on wage structures within various occupations will be required initially. Work not expected to begin until late 1978 or early 1979.
