HONG KONG CIVIL SERVANT FOR HONG KONG AND GENERAL DEPARTMENT

10

You will have seen FCO telegram number 7294 to Hong Kong in which (following my submission of 17 October) I expressed the hope that Mr P J Williamson could be made available to succeed Mr J Thompson as head of the Hong Kong Section of this Department.

2. I telephoned Mr Rowlands this morning to ask how matters stood. He said that he had submitted the papers to the Governor and had not yet had any reaction. I stressed the need for an early decision (Mr Thompson is getting understandably restive) Mr Rowlands said he would do what he could.

If I have heard nothing further by the middle of next week I will telephone the Governor.
