1st May 1978 to 31st July 1978

APPOINTMENTS DIVISION

During the reporting period 276 vacancies within

the PSC's purview were advertised locally; on the 31st

July 1978 188 posts were under recruitment overseas

(including 60 posts of Police Inspector for 1978/79).

During the reporting period 70 newly appointed officers

(including 20 Police Inspectors) assumed duty from overseas.

Recruitment to the rank and file of the Police

Force totalled 341. On 30th June 1978 there were 148

vacancies in the rank and file establishment of 16,331.

An early increase is expected in the establishment and

for the three months from 1st July 1978 the recruitment

target is 720.

Since the scheme to re-deploy surplus Government

primary school teachers to other jobs within the Education

Department and other Government departments was announced

in July 1977, 479 teachers have been re-deployed under this

scheme or have had their applications for early or normal

retirement approved. The estimated surplus in September

1980 (when compulsory retirements will be introduced,

necessary) has therefore been reduced from 1,100 to 621,

so far.
