Day Care Centres provide meals, personal care and recreational activities
during the day for elderly people whose families are unable to look after them full time.
Hostel Accommodation is mainly provided in public housing estates for elderly singletons, couples or those who for various reasons cannot live with their families, These people must be capable of independent living.
Homes for the Aged are purpose built residential facilities for elderly
people who for social reasons or declining health are unable to live on their own and require a degree of personal care and assistance in managing their daily chores.
Care and Attention Homes are purpose built residential facilities for
elderly people who require personal and limited nursing care (but not medical care).
Social Clubs and Centres provide leisure and social activities for the
elderly, usually organized by religious bodies and voluntary organizations.
Multi-Service Centres provide or co-ordinate at the district level a range
of community support services to assist the elderly to
live in the community.
(2) Statistics for 1972/73 and 1977/78 reflect actual provision. Statistics for 1978/79 include both existing and planned provision. Statistics for 1979/80 and beyond include planned provision as proposed in the Green Paper on Services for the Elderly.
