Bee 13:
Thank you for your letter of 1 June.
You will understand that I cannot comment on possible nominations to the Legislative Council in Hong Kong. I can however assure you that the Governor of Hong Kong is concerned to ensure that the Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council represent as wide a cross-section of the people of Hong Kong as possible, including the labour movement. The British Government fully support this policy.
I have passed on a copy of your letter to the Governor.
Yours sincerely
(Evan Luard)
