1. I submit draft answers and a background note to the three Priority Written Questions tabled by Mr Robert Parry MP (Labour Liverpool, Scotland Exchange) for answer on 15 May.

2. The three Questions deal with the governorship of Hong Kong and have, presumably, been prompted by the announcement on 22 March that Sir Murray MacLehose's term of office has been extended to August 1979.

3. Mr Parry takes a close and normally critical interest in Hong Kong's affairs. He tabled 94 Questions on the Colony in 1977 and has already put down a further 15 this year.

4. The proposed answers have been agreed with the Hong Kong

Government.
