CAPITAL PUNISHMENT IN THE DEPENDENT TERRITORIES : THE OUTSTANDING CASES

1. In Mr Stewart's submission of 16 May about the recent capital case in Belize, he suggested that he should produce a consolidated list of all outstanding cases in the Dependent

I under- Overseas Territories which might lead to executions. stand that at his meeting this morning to discuss the Gaston case, Mr Rowlands indicated that he would welcome something on these lines.

Discounting Hong Kong cases (where the Governor has said that the present practice of commuting in every instance is indefinitely sustainable) there are four capital cases in the Dependent Overseas Territories in action at the moment and one further case in which the suspect has yet to be apprehended. They are detailed on the attached list. - now with (241)

3. We shall submit again whenever there is any significant development in any of these cases. We shall also issue an updated version of the attached table at monthly intervals.
