Victim a popular cricketer jury

possibly biased. Provo- cation, age of accused (65) and his previous good record should indi- cate leniency. The Governor has indicated that he will commute the sentence if the appeal fails.

Accused was provoked by taunting remarks of victim. Although words are not accepted as sufficient provocation under Belize law to justify reducing a ver- dict from murder to manslaughter, the Chief Justice has expressed the view that this ought to be the case. We have asked the Governor to clarify whether the Chief Justice believed that the provocation in this case was sufficient for this.
