LETTER FROM MR ARTHUR LATHAM MP TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE
1.
I attach a draft reply for consideration for signature by Lord Goronwy Roberts in the absence of the Secretary of State to Mr Latham's letter of 25 January.
2. You will see from Mr Sullivan's (WIAD) minute of 30 January that he considers we should be as brief as possible with our reply.
3. We have not received a copy of the Deputy Governor's letter to Lord Fenner Brockway, but at Flag A I enclose an extract of this letter as quoted by Sir A Duff in his memorandum following his visit to Bermuda in December.
4. I attach a copy of Mr Sutton's letter of 8 December addressed to Dr Owen which we forwarded to Bermuda for advice in accordance with Colonial Regulations. Apparently the Governor saw fit to arrange for a reply from Bermuda without copying the reply to
us.
5. I also attach a copy of a letter written to Mr Sutton on the same date to Mr Arthur Latham, and the latter's reply dated 23 December.
