I enclose a letter received from a correspondent in Bermuda.
You will, I hope, be aware of the letter which the Deputy Governor sent to Fenner Brockway and others, including myself, in which he claimed that the perogative of mercy could not be exercised by the Governor because the Queen had herself exercised it by not granting a reprieve!
From earlier correspondence it does appear that not only the Governor's office but the Government Party in Bermuda has tried to hold the British Government responsible for the hangings.
I hope you may take Mr. Sutton's point and that there will be no knighthood for the present Bermudian Premier.
I am sending a copy of this letter to our own Prime Minister.
