CAPITAL PUNISHMENT: LETTER FROM "LIBERATION"

1.

Mr Stan Newens MP, in his capacity as Chairman of "Liberation" has sent the Secretary of State a letter, co-signed by Mr Tony Gilbert, the General Secretary.

2. The letter argues that the Creech Jones formula should not prevent any British Government from "acting honourably". It says the Secretary of State should have used his influence, or issued instructions, to protect the lives of the two murderers, and goes on to call upon the Government to implement UN resolutions on colonialism immediately, and to use its influence for the protection

of human life.

3.

I submit a draft reply which has been prepared in consultation with WIAD and Mr Stephen.
