5. The past ten years has seen an unusual growth in the demand

for some coins perhaps because of the increased value of the

metal content; and it is suspected that some coins may have been

melted down for use by jewellers.

This has had the effect if

anything of enhancing the value of reserves in relation to the value

of the coins actually outstanding with the public.
