NUMISMATIC COIN ISSUES IN THE DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

Report of the Bank of England Dated 26 January 1978

Thank you for your visit to the FCO yesterday

and for taking the trouble of going through the abovementioned Rerort

with me so that we could decide on a framework of a summarised version

which we wish to circulate to all Officers Administering Governments

of Overseas Territories. I now attach a re-draft based on our

discussionon which I should like to make the following comments.

I THE REASONS FOR THE SURVEY and wonder if those comments should

not be inserted elsewhere in theSummary.

Insofar as the detailed recommendations in Section

III are concerned (paragraphs (a) to (m)) these may need expanding

in nearly all cases. I had some difficulty here since in each case

the recommendation has been followed with quite a long piece setting

out its drawbacks. I think we should aim at setting out our

recommendations and our reasons for preferring such course of action.
