THE BONN STATEMENT ON AIR HIJACKING

1.

Thank you for sending Mr McLaren (who is at present on leave) a copy of your minute of 21 July, about the meeting you propose to hold on 25 July to consider the Foreign Policy implications of the above statement.

2. An important consideration is ther we should take steps to extend the application of the policy outlined in the statement to our dependent territories. Subject to your views, and to those of the Heads of the other dependent territories departments, I would have thought that it was very much in our interest to extend the effectiveness of the policy as far as possible, and therefore we should bring our dependent territories into the club.

3. I do not know whether you would wish to consider this point at your meeting of 25 July. I would not otherwise have any reason to attend your meeting. But if you did wish to discuss this point, and think it would be helpful for me to be present, I am available.
