CONSERVATIVE PARTY POLICY ON DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

1. At the suggestion of Mr John Davies, MP Mr W F Shelton,

Conservative MP for Streatham, has invited me to have lunch

with him on 14 April to discuss policy towards the Dependencies.

I understand that he has been asked by Mr Davies to draw up a

Conservative Party policy in relation to our remaining Depend-

encies.

2. Mr Shelton told me on the telephone that among the subjects

which he would wish to consider was the effect which a new

Nationality Act might have on our responsibilities towards, the

Dependencies. He implied that he would be considering again

such questions as integration.

I should be grateful for background

information about nationality legislation and the Dependencies

in the light of last year's Green Paper. I should also be

grateful for any background on integration which has I believe

been considered in relation to Gibraltar and might perhaps be

considered in the context of St Helena and the Falklands.
