Was the appointment of the West Indian Attorney General of Montserrat made with the Secretary of State's approval.
Could you also provide me with the AG's CV and nationality (his name is Weekes).

1. I am sorry not to have dealt with this sooner. The exercise which we have been undertaking is not to bring up to date the instructions in Col Regs about senior appointments, but to make clear to Governors which posts are to be designated for the purposes of CR19, ie which promotions and appointments must be approved by the Secretary of State. You should have copies of all the despatches which have issued to DI's in the posts for which WIAD is responsible, with the possible exception of the latest, St Helena. I attach a copy.
2. Montserrat was not included in the current exercise as we thought that their list had been cleared in 1974 (see attached extracts from our 1974 file HX18/501/5). There was not however a despatch to tie things up. We should perhaps write now to Mr Jones about this. The AG post was included in the list, but we have no papers on the appointment of Weekes.
