I asked POD (Basil Eastwood and subsequently Diane Taylor) what was the present position on the proposal to promote Mr McEntee to Grade 3. It seems that a recommendation in favour of this promotion was made by the No.1 Board which sat on 23 November 1978 but it has not yet been approved, by the Secretary of State. Miss Taylor undertook to advise me as soon as a decision was through both on the promotion itself and also the timing i.e. whether the recommendation was until the end of 1979 or until June 1980 when Mr McEntee would be 60. Mr Eastwood seend to think it would be the former when he was notional 60.
The DTSAB would need to approve any extension and the proposal would also need to go to the Palace.
