VACANCY FOR ATTORNEY-GENERAL, HONG KONG
Your Senior Legal Adviser, Mr I M P Evans, has probably told you that he recently attended an interview for the post of Attorney-General in Hong Kong and is among the candidates placed on a short list.
The appointment is for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a further period. Mr Evans has enquired whether, if he were selected, he could be seconded to the Hong Kong Government by the British Steel Corporation. I believe that his main concern is to preserve his existing pension rights. The Hong Kong Government see no great difficulty in adjusting their normal terms to meet Mr Evans' point. It would
be helpful to know in principle whether you would be prepared to agree to some arrangement which would preserve his pension rights. The details could be worked out at a later stage, if Mr Evans is the successful candidate.
