2. I can certainly ask the Civil Service Department to advertise this within the Home Civil Service (this will of course include the FCO), unless you have any comments or other ideas. Another way would be to advertise the post nationally through the Civil Service Commission, thus inviting candidates from outside the Civil Service. imagine that it is for Hong Kong to say how they want this done, since I suppose the recruitment is entirely their responsibility. Also, advertising nationally might I suppose invite a flood of applications from briefless barristers. But I could put the point to Sir D Roberts.
