ATTORNEY GENERAL HONG KONG
1. We spoke on the telephone on Tuesday about the visit which the present Attorney General of Hong Kong, John Hobley proposes to pay to London in the middle of next month in connection with the search for his successor. You kindly agreed to see him at
11 am on Monday 16 October.
2. You said that you would find it helpful to have rather more information than we have so far been able to provide on the duties of the Attorney General and the kind of man Hong Kong are looking for. I sent a telegram to John Hobley accordingly and he has now asked me to pass you the attached message. I hope that it gives you what you need. I am passing a similar message to the Chairman of the Bar Council who has been asked to help identify possible candidates from among practising members of the Bar.
3.
You asked about Hobley's background. You will find his career details in "Who's Who" (page 1155 of the 1978 edition).
