We hope to get someone for a minimum of 3 years and a secondment from the U.K. Civil Service would be acceptable if that suited a suitable candidate.

I write therefore to ask if you are willing to approach the Civil Service Department (or a better alternative if there is one) with a view at this stage to the taking of soundings in appropriate U.K. Departments. Ideally, we should like a list of possibles", from which we could select those we think suitable for a short-list.

I shall be in London in the early part of November and could interview selected candidates. If you are able to help us, our plans will best be met if we have the list of "possibles" by the middle of October. If you think it would be useful, I could arrange for John Hobley the present AG, to come back to England to help to try to identify suitable candidates.

I am sure that I do not need to stress the importance of this task and we shall be very grateful for your help.
