I have just spoken to Gilbert Burns (SEO) Tel: 273 6077, who said that Mr Hawkins had been on Easter leave when the last reminder was received but he has now returned. Mr Burns thought two questions were causing them problems WOPS (he did not know how this could be given to Governors) and promotion in absentia.

He said his department was swamped at present with work on contracting out, and board members, but I said the FCO were pressing usfor action on the Governors Pension Scheme and as the matter had been 'outstanding for so long was there anything he could do to hasten matters.

He

said he would mention this telephone enquiry to Mr Hawkins, who might

phone you back.
