I would welcome your observations on the enclosed correspondence from the Government Shorthand-Audio Typists Association in Hong Kong.

Labour relations in Hong Kong are notoriously medieval - if anything remotely approaching the practices in that territory applied here there would be riots all over the kingdom but at least government departments could set a decent example. Or is the Hong Kong government terrified of the industrial and other racketeers who really rule Hong Kong ?

In this particular case I would have thought some independent arbitrator could be found to pronounce on the merits of the claim

maybe Jim Mortimer would like a trip to the Far East.
