63. On 10th October, 1976, a joint United States Drug Enforcement Administration/Narcotics Bureau operation culminated in the arrest in the Lee Gardens Hotel of 4 Thai males and the seizure of 682 grammes of No. 4 heroin concealed inside the frames of a suitcase. The heroin, with a purity weight of 612.3 grammes (90%) had been 'purchased' by a USDEA agent in Bangkok for HK$90,000, and was being delivered to him in Hong Kong.
64. The arrested persons, Manit PHROMANONTA, Nisit VETSIRIYANAN, Choompol MANEENETR and Preechar LEEYARUK were charged with Possession Of Dangerous Drugs For The Purpose Of Unlawful Trafficking and Conspiracy To Traffic In A Dangerous Drug. VETSIRIYANAN was discharged after committal proceedings. PHROMANONTA, MANEENETR and LEEYARUK were found guilty following their trial in the Supreme Court and each sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.
