39. On 31st July, 1976, Malaysian male THAI-Tu (2071/3325) and Chinese male Sun Po-sang (1327/1405/1472) arrived at Hong Kong Airport from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Prior to being searched by Preventive Service officers they both produced polythene bags of prepared opium which were concealed on their bodies. The total seizure comprised 2.8387 kilogrammes of prepared opium. THAI and SUN both arrested and charged with Trafficking In A Dangerous Drug. THAI was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and SUN to 21 months' imprisonment.

40. On 8th August, 1976, Preventive Service officers searched m.v. 'Treasure Country' on her arrival from Bangkok, resulting in the discovery of 3.9745 kilogrammes of opium poppy capsules (heads) inside a crew cabin. The occupants of the cabin, Chinese males YEUNG Lam (2799/2651) and LEUNG Tung (2733/0681) were arrested and charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs For The Purpose Of Unlawful Trafficking. They were both sentenced to 4 months' imprisonment, suspended for 2 years.

41. On 12th August, 1976, acting on information, Preventive Service officers boarded and searched m.v. 'Solar Continental Maru' on her arrival from Bangkok. An examination by divers of the fore-peak tank revealed a false bulkhead in which a recently cemented metal plate was discovered. Removal of this plate led to a second bulkhead containing a secret compartment in which three large polythene bags of narcotics were found. The seizure comprised 40.39 kilogrammes of prepared opium, 6.519 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 5.159 kilogrammes of a salt of morphine, and 31.325 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 12.978 kilogrammes of salts of esters of morphine (No. 3 heroin).
