Members of the public were shocked by the storming of the IUAC Office at Lutchison nouse. The incident, which was described as a violent act that was uncalled for, had severely blemished the Public's image of the Police and of the orce. The Public had generally been sympathetic towards the Police before the hutchison House incident, (some were still sympathetic after the event) they used to have a particular sentiment towards the Police, who, in upholding law and order, were considered to be doing an invaluable service to the community. hence the public had felt at it was unjust that the iolice should have to undergo the severe anxiety and mental strain because of 10A0 prolonged period of inve.tigation and interdiction. There was respect for the lolice for continuing with their duty despite this hardship. But the Lutchison nouse Incident had apparently tarnished the Lolice's image.

There has been much public anxiety and rear in the first two days after the mutchison incident, there were speculations that the incident would further de- velop into Police ricts or t at the lolice would be taking industrial actions. This fear has diminished considerably in the following days when the rolice has shown that they were continuing with t .eir normal duties. The danger of social unrests had, in some respects, become a somewhat remote possibility.
