Shaukiwon could only offer to pay him $10,000 per month. He accepted but the condition I imposed was the same, namely he should not raid the stalls which were under my-protection. At the end June 1971, I put 20 $500 notes into an envelope and I gave it to Mr. Thompson in
is office telling him it was the income for that month. Later when Chiu Tak was transferred to our division I handed this responsibility to him and I also brought him to see Mr. Thompson. Mr. Thompson agreed that it was better for Chiu Tak alone to carry on this arrangement than to have 2 persons. The 20 $500 notes were monies collected from gambling stalls and opium stalls. The £300 sterling which I gave lir. Cunningham before he went on leave was my own money. This was money obtained from corruption. I passed over to Chiu Tak $30,000 per month. During the period I was passing money to Chiu Tak, I did not carry out any raids on Shaukiwan or Causeway Bay. No raids were initiated from the division against the real stalls which were in operation not against the stalls which were under my protection. When Ma Hak Shing took over from Chiu Tak, I also passed the same amount to Ma Hak Shing, $30,000. After initial discussion with Mr. Thompson I did not discuss further with him. After initial discussion with lir. Cunningham about these matters all were discussed on the first occasion. When a certain stall has moved its address, then I must inform him otherwise he, 1st Accused, would make a mistake.
