6. The Essential Facts

They did not

day or two after the incident at the Cactus Apartment

House LAW Ming-tak told his employee LEUNG Ving-sang to

.hide, whereupon LEUNG left his home and went to his

friend CHAM Loi-fat's place in Nathan Road. He spent

the night there. In the same evening, several parties

of Police raided various places in Kowloon in search

for LEUNG, having earlier obtained LEUNG's nickname and identification from one of the injured persons

employed at the Cactus Apartment House. A party of

Police raided LEUNG's home in Tsuen Wan.

find him there. After speaking with his parents, they

took away one of LOUNG's photographs and left. At about

the same time, LAW Ming-tak's meat company was also

visited by the Police. As a result, LAW, and over 20

other persons including his wife, brother and employees

were arrested and taken to Wanchai Police Station for

enquiries. They were not detained. Some were released

unconditionally and others, including LAW, were released on police bail. All these persons were suspected by the

Police to be members of the 14K and some of them were

suspected to be fighters. Subsequent to LAW's release,

SZETO Wah, acting on behalf of LAW, had discussions with

LAU Cheong-wch.

On the following day LEUNG Wing-sang left CHAN Loi-fat

and went to Shatin to stay at the home of his friend

LEE Chi-lung. There he stayed until the day of his

arrest. Some days after he had gone to LEE's house,

CHAN Loi-fat visited LEUNG at LEE's house and told him

that LAW Ming-tak wanted to see him on a very serious

and urgent matter. As a result, a further meeting took

place in the same evening at the roadside near the fly-

over at Tsang Tai Uk, Shatin, between LEUNG, CHAN, LAW,

LEE and SZETO Wah. At that meeting LAW begged IE ING to "surrender" himself so that he (LAW) and his people would no longer be troubled by the Police. No agreement was reached, and a further meeting was arranged for the following day.
