Tai 3 pressed. her to accept the money and she asked hin what it was Tai D said the money belonged to "the Association". She asked hin his male and that ho dic. She said she was given $5,000 and, on another day, a further $5,000 was brought by CHAR Loi-fat. At first she said CHAT Loi-fat only came to her house twice once with her son and the others, the next time when he brought the they brought her the $5,000. Then she said that when the newspapers carried the news that CHAR was going to give evidence, he came to enquire after her health. (CHU! Loi-fat testified he went many times to console LEUNC's mothen) She said she only knew CHAN Loi-fat after her son's arrest and P.. 6 visited her many times. She referred to P.W. 6 as the person who called on her son to take prt in the fighting. She said that then tley brought her son to the house they did not search the house. son was not handcuffed. It was suggested by r. liguyen that she had been taught what to say before UMELCO and this court and she swore she was not. She said, "If I was coached by someone I would not be so clumsy. LEUNG's mother said she had been hospitalized since arch this year end had come from hospital to give evidence.

CHA testified that the next day, that is, the 1st August, 1973 he was present in the Harbour Hotel when LEUNG was taken there by the 2nd accused and other detectives. CHAN said he was present on at least four occasions when LLUNG was taken to the Harbour Hotel for meals, escorted by detectives, including the 2nd accused. US somo occasions he sew LUNG's girl friend, LAU Hei-yuk, and he also Bay IA Chi-vai, Sai Fong-sing and P.W. 6 but not Tai B.
It is not disputed that on the 1st July, 1973 the twenty- two persons previously arrested (including F.. 6) were released from their bail and their money returned to them and that YIK Chung- vas also roleased that same day although he was then known to the police as a falous 14 Triad fighter and although the police believed the Cactus attack was by the 141 Triad Society on members of a rival gang.

Chief Inspector 110K Sau-tim (on those behalf Mr. R. Claypole held a watching brief) gave evidence for the defence. He was the D.D.I./Wanchai and the O/C of a special squad formed on the 19th July, 1973 to investigate the Cactus incident. He was asked whether, before the twenty-two persons arrested between the 19th and 23rd July 1975 were released on bail they had been investigated by the polico as regards their possible involvement in the Cactus incident. i. UK replied, "I don't want to answer this question.
He was asked the reasons why P.. 6 and the other twenty-one persons were released and Nr. 10 claimed privilege. He was asked if the decision to release F.. 6 had anything to do with the 1st accused. Again Fr. ¡UK claimed privilege, but he admitted that, usually speaking", the decision to release a suspect on bail had to be made by the 0/%.
