Dr William GREEN, an Army Psychiatrist, gave evidence to the effect that had your humble petitioner been examined by him before this offence, Dr GREEN would have recommended his admission to hospital for investigation and treatment for alcoholism.

Your humble petitioner is deeply remorseful for the terrible events of the 18 February 1976, and fully appreciates that he has covered both his family and himself with disgrace. In particular, he deeply regrets the grief that he has caused to the deceased's family. These events have driven home to him the evil consequences that can flow from excessive alcohol consumption, and he promises most sincerely that if he is ever permitted to rejoin the community he will, to the best of his ability, abstain from the heavy drinking which led him to the commission of this rationally inexplicable crime. To this end he would present himself for medical treatment.

Your humble petitioner is appealing to His Excellency the Governor to exercise the Royal Prerogative of mercy for his act and to pardon him for his act and to commute his present sentence of hanging and substitute one of imprisonment so that he can repent and atone for all his wrong-doing. That your humble petitioner promises to remember forever and thenceforward to lead a useful industrious life and be of benefit to the community in the future;
