in the Tung Chi Building in order to seek his advice about

problem with his girl friend. The visit lasted from 9.00

9.45 pm, during which time Liu Ping-hon was helpful in his

counsel and appeared optimistic, requesting that Hung Yu

Chung return for a further chat if the latter's difficulty

did not improve. Hung Yu Chung left at 9.45 as Liu Ping-hon

had indicated that he wished to go to bed early as he had a

lot of administration at work the following morning. Hung

Yu Chung testified that there was absolutely no evidence of

any depression in Liu Ping-hon's mood, and the news of his

death the following day came as an enormous shock.

MEDICAL EVIDENCE

Liu Ping-hon was certified as dead on arrival at Queen Mary

Hospital on the morning of July 26, 1977.

His body was then

Dr. Ng Tat Ming,

transferred to Victoria Public Mortuary.

Government Pathologist, testified at the inquest that he

carried out a post-mortem on the deceased on July 28, 1977.

His report established that Liu Ping-hon had died from

multiple injuries to the head and body, all of which were consistent with the body falling from a height of anything

above five storeys. Dr. Ng further testified that the injuries

listed in his report were not inconsistent with any physical

assault upon the deceased prior to the death fall.

POLICE INVESTIGATION

The police investigation into the death was in two steps.

DC10496, attached to Western C.I.D. was first to

arrive at the scene at 7.30 am, inspected the body, which was

lying in the roadway about fifteen feet out from the front of

the Hon Ming Building, and conducted an immediate brief

investigation. This included a cursory survey of the building

and a conversation with the building watchman, who said he had

seer. and heard nothing. No witnesses were forthcoming. After
