AFFIDAVIT II
I. Thomas F.M.TUNG, solemnly make under oath the following state ment which is the absolute truth and nothing but the truth:-
My Character
(1) When I was a teacher at King's College in Hongkong in 1950- 1951, a bookstore proprietor gave me a kickback of somewhat about $57. When I refused to take, he forcibly put it into my pocket. I gave it to the headmaster, Mr. H.T. Wu. He asked me whether there was any person seeing it? I said: "No". He then said: "If there was no one who saw it, then you can have it and use it for your own benefit. I said to the Headmaster: It is in principles that I cannot accept. But the Headmaster took it for his own benefit without mak- ing a report on it.

(2) In 1958, when I was teacher at the Hongkong Central Police
Class, two police officers followed me from the Police Headquarters down to the Queens Road Central, and suddenly and clandestinely put two fountain pens into my pocket. I politely returned it to them. They disappointinly saidto me: "If we give more valuable gifts to you, then you will accept I just explained to them: "This is my principles, dis- regarding the values".

(3) As far back as 1933, when I just graduated from college, I
got a job in the former French Concession. Only two weeks after I had taken up the job, a clerk came to my house at deep night. He said to me "There is an extra source of in -come for you. If you want, you can have $500 extra income. I immediately said to him: "I have $300 a month. It is enough for me. If you people have the tradition of accepting extra income, you got to be careful. He then left me in disappointment.
