You will have seen in the national press that Councillor Elsie Elliott has been given the equivalent of a Nobel Prize by Indonesia for the work she has done for the people in Hong Kong. I have had a number of letters sent me about the fact that she is not one of the eight nominated members who will go on LegCo. I understand that of the eight only one, Fr. McGovern, has ever spoken out for the ordinary Chinese people. I find the whole business very sad, particularly in the light of the talks Ben Ford and I had with you some months ago. I should like to talk to you again about whether or not, we are able to send out someone to look at the situation-and in the meantime am enclosing an open letter sent to the Governor by Mrs. Elliott. I have few doubts but that basically the facta will stand up.
I hope that you are enjoying your holidays. I have just to west Wales with my family and enjoyed myself immensely.
Kind regards,
Verkin
