while I was no leave, I learned that there is to be a meeting,
of Commonwealth Law Ministers in Winnipeg in August. have in the past (though before my time as Attorney General) endeavoured in a low-key way to obtain agreement to the attendance at such meetings of the Hong Kong Attorney General. I think that Tony Rushford may remember discussing the matter with Denys Roberts. Clearly, if
that could be arranged, we should have to attend under
the wing of your Attorney General.
I am writing now to see whether you feel able
to propose on our behalf that we might attend.
It is not unreasonable to suggest that Hong Kong is not in the same position as the other remaining dependent territories. I have no doubt that a Hong Kong presence would be valuable for this Government and, I like to think, not without value from the point of view
of the Law Ministers of the independent Commonwealth
countri
