Director of Public Works.

Poon Cheung Kee,

45 Anchor Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon.

Tel. 3-923884.

24th January, 1977.

Roquent for rohousing prior to demolition

and removal.

We are the residents' representativen of Tai Kok Tsui Road, Cherry Street, Beech Street and Anchor Street. Regarding your department's notice dated 24.12.76 (G.N. 2869), since we are affected by the construction works mentioned in items (c), (d) & (e), we have no alternative but to make the following requests to

you :-

!

(1) The residents concerned have been operating their

factories and shops (comprising metalware shops, timber yards, furniture shops etc.) on the location since the pre-war period. The over 100 shops provide for the livelihood of over 1,000 workmen and their families, totalling some 10,000 persons. Being small businessmen who are barely able to make ends meet because of the low amount of rent paid, we really cannot afford to find another place for effecting removal. We therefore request that alternative accomodation be granted to us by your department before demolition and removal.

(2) Please effect demolition and clearance by stages

so that we can have ample time to prepare for removal.

We should be grateful if you would approve our urgent requenta no that, we do not have to close down our business, which will result in the unemployment of our workmen and social unrest.

Cchd 12.

Yours faithfully,

POON Cheung &

9 other representatives of residents of the 4 streets.
