Fifteen (15) domestic temporary structures (9 on private land and 6 on Crown land) used for domestic purposes will have to be cleared. These structures are occupied by 9 families who, if eligible, will be offered public housing. Genuine cultivator-families who opt for a resite outside the Layout will be offered an ex-gratia rehabilitation allowance of $5,000 but will forfeit their priority for public housing.

In addition to the structures mentioned above, fifty-two (52) other ancillary temporary structures including 16 pigsties, 3 chicken sheds and a shop will also have to be cleared.

Negotiations to obtain voluntary surrender of the private land are in progress but the institution of formal resumption proceeding is recommended to avoid delays which may be caused by registration of succession difficulties or absentee landowners.

Honourable Members will be asked to advise, under section 3 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance (Chapter 124), whether the resumption of the lots listed at Annex B is required for a public purpose, namely the River Training Works in Lam Tei and Fu Tei, Package 15 of the Stage IIA Development, Tuen Mun, New Territories.
(The District Officer, Tuen Mun (Mr Peter NG Kwok-tai) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
