Mr Robert Parry (Liverpool, Scotland Exchange): To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he is satisfied with the land resumption ordinance of the Hong Kong Government, in particular reference to the New Territories.
:
The Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance provides adequate compensation for the rights of lessees whose land or property is compulsorily resumed. In the New Territories in particular· the provisions of the Ordinance are backed by administrative procedures, which provide incentives to lessees to surrender their land voluntarily and allow for additional amounts of ex gratia compensation. These arrangements are kept under constant review.
