was cordial and constructive, the delega- tion presented a petition on various as- pects of the Hong Kong Government's policies with regard to the New Territories of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Gov- ernment have since sent a reply to the petition on the Minister of State's behalf.
Hong Kong
Mr. Parry asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied with the land resumption ordinance of the Hong Kong Government, in particular reference to the New Territories.
Mr. Laard: The Crown Lands Res- umption Ordinance provides adequate compensation for the rights of lessees whose land or property is compulsorily. resumed. In the New Territories in parti- cular the provisions of the Ordinance are backed by administrative procedures, which provide incentives to lessees to sur- render their land voluntarily and allow for additional amounts of ex-gratia com- pensation. These arrangements are kept under constant review.
Exports
Mr. Cronin asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to liberalise the strategic embargo on exports.
Mr. Jadd: The Government are fully aware of the need to allow as much free- dom as possible to British exporters seek- ing to trade with Communist countries. But in this field it is, of course, essential to bear in mind the strategic interests of the United Kingdom. Accordingly, offi- cials keep limitations on exports of a strategic nature under continual review and regular consultations are held on this subject with countries having similar
interests.

Mr. Judd: No reports have been received by Her Majesty's Consul in Lyons of any asault by the Gendarmerie at Chamonix on Mr. Peter Griffiths of M.A.T. Fleet Services, Hull, on 21st June or of his arrest that day together with that of a fellow driver, Mr. Arthur Ashton.
Cyprus
Mrs. Jeger asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has now been made towards. obtaining compensation for United King- dom citizens for injury, loss and damage caused by the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.
Mr. Luard: The negotiations with the Turkish Government I referred to in my reply to my hon. Friend on 7th March have continued although the recent Tur- kish elections have inevitably slowed progress. It is now expected that the regulations to establish the Turkish Cypriot Claims Committee will be pre- sented to the Turkish Cypriot assembly during its autumn session.
