recommended to avoid delays which might be caused by succession diffi- culties, absentee owners or by negotiations which may not be concluded satisfactorily within the time available. As the land to be resumed lies within the Sha Tin Outline Zoning Plan, the land-owners will be offered the alternative of land exchange or cash compensation including an ex- gratia compensation for agricultural land to bring the total compensation up to $10 per square foot. The majority are expected to accept the ex- change offer, in which case the amount of cash compensation to be paid will be reduced accordingly.

Honourable Members will be asked to advise, under section 3 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance (Chapter 124), whether the resumption of the lots listed at Annex B is required for a public purpose, namely, the construction of the second carriageway and the interchange of the Lion Rock Tunnel Road at Hung Mui Kuk, Sha Tin, New Territories.
