We have spoken about an enquiry I have received from Ian Mikardo MP. This concerns five Bulgarian buyers who have made visa applications via our Embassy in Sofia, to visit Hong Kong from 3 - 7 July. The applications were made on 3 May and were apparently sponsored by the Hong Kong Development Council. The names are as follows:

Mr FR Rankov

Vice President of Bulgarian Foreign Trade Bank

Mr A H Vlakov

Deputy Director of Foreign Trade Enterprise

Mr AD Martchev

Deputy Director of Foreign Trade Enterprise

Mr P D Raltchev

Deputy Director of Foreign Trade Enterprise

2. The party have received no confirmation that their visas have been granted. They are due to leave Bulgaria very shortly, travelling to Singapore first.

3. I have spoken to Consular Department who advise me that these visas would need to be approved by the Director of Immigration in Hong Kong. Would it be possible to send a telex to enquire about the position?
