Cases for Further Interview

SIO(VLCC) will cruss whatever questions he thinks should be asked by his Immigration Officer(s), and make such enquiries as he thinks neccssary to enable him to reach a decision (within 48 hours of the immigrant's interception) as to whether the immigrant should be given permission to land or sent to the Immigration Clearence Centre for repatriation.

SIO(YLCC) should refer to P10(1) any case on which he considers he will be unlikely to reach a decision within the time available, or in which ho, requires guidance.

If the S10(YLCC) considers that the immigrant should be refused permission to land, he will seck P10(1)'s confirmation of such a recommendation. If P10(1) confirms the decision, the immigrant will be returned to the Ta Ku Ling Immigration Clearance Centre by the earliest available transport. When the immigrant arrives at the Immigration Clearance Centre, S10(ICC) will make the usual repatriation arrangements.

If S10(YLCC) decides after reference to P10(1), that the subject should be permitted to land, the procedures at paragraphs 20 24 will be followed.

Hospital Cases

29.

An inaigrant who is taken to hospital, or referred for medical treatment during the first 48 hours after interception will normally be permitted to land after his release from medicul caro, unless such release takes place within 48 hours after interception, in which case he will be taken to the Immigration Clearance Contre and given an expedited interview, with a view to determining whether he should be permitted or refused permission to land.

ALL such cases should be reported to P10(1) before a decision is taken, as should any case of a compassionate, humanitarian or other exceptional nature.

Statistics

31.

Clo(GI) will be responsible for all statistical summaries and periodic reports dealing with persons processed

Initially, at the Immigration Clearance Centre et Ta Ku Ling. daily returns should be forwarded to HQ For D's attention, cc: P10(1).

32.

S10(TCC) and S10(YLCC) will establish and maintain close working liaison and co-operation with Marine Police, Special Branch, Frontier Division Police and Immigration
