The cumulative total of illegal immigrants arrested by or surrendered to the Police and the Army since 1 January 1968 is now 31,327. The yearly totals are as follows:-

The figure of illegal immigrants interviewed and accepted as having evaded controls since 30 November 1974 is 15,182. The ratio of interceptions against evasions is now 1:4.02.

Macao

12.

1 illegal immigrant referred to this department by the Marine Police during the month is still being processed. In addition, 2 cases where the illegal immigrants were arrested in previous months were finalized in October; 1 was removed to Macao and the other was allowed to stay in Hong Kong.

Since November 1975, the total of illegal immigrants interviewed and accepted as having entered from Macao is 1,464. Of these 142 were arrested, 1,094 surfaced through ROP claiming illegal entry from Macao and 228 surfaced through ROP falsely claiming illegal entry from elsewhere.

Registration of illegals

14.

During October 701 persons (compared with 928 last month) registered with the Registration of Persons Office, claiming to have entered Hong Kong illegally from various sources. The figure includes 623 persons (compared with 808 last month) claiming to have come from China and 33 (compared with 46 last month) from Macao.

15.

Since 1962, the Registration of Persons Office has registered a total of 320,170 persons who claimed to have entered Hong Kong illegally from various sources, primarily China. The total since January 1970 is 106,415 of whom 89,148 claimed to have come from China and 5,756 from Macao.
