Persons who enter legally from China and who are landed for a limited period i.e. Overseas Chinese and Non- Cantonese, must obtain Declarations of Identity and re-entry visas for Hong Kong if they wish to travel. During April, the traffic in such persons was as follows:

Since 1st January 1974, 58,310 holders of Declarations of Identity departed for China and 45,282 returned to ong Kong. The great majority had returned there to visit their families. The similar figures for Macao and elsewhere are available only since 1st April 1975: these are:-

99 illegals from China were caught trying to enter: Hong Kong during the month c.f. 112 last month. 103 illegals were returned to China during the month. since 30th November 1974 are:-

So far this year 432 illegals have been caught attempting to enter as against 178 for the same period last year.

11,604 persons have been processed by the Immigration Department claiming to have successfully evaded the controls since repatriations to China commenced on 30th ilovember, 1974. When compared with the number apprehended trying to enter this gives a ratio of 1:4.39.
