PROPOSED VISIT TO HONG KONG BY MR BRIAN VAUGHTON

1.

I have been approached by journalist Mr Brian Vaughton with a request to visit Hong Kong. Mr Vaughton has established that his articles would be printed by the Bolton Evening News, Manchester Evening News and, possibly, the Daily Telegraph.

2. He is well-known to the PR organisation as a responsible non-sensationalist writer. The last facility which PR2 offered him was a flight in an RAF Nimrod over the Mediterranean which resulted in some very pleasing copy.

Mr Vaughton is interested in seeing the work of all three Services in Hong Kong, and talking to 'local boys' from the Bolton and Manchester areas for those two newspapers. As in the case of the Glascow Herald and Andover Advertiser, whose facility DS6 was good enough to approve in early December, Mr Vaughton is also interested in seeing the various ways in which Service personnel aid the civil community, and gathering material for a more colourful piece describing the atmosphere of the colony itself.

Mr Vaughton's free periods are:

all April

May 23 to June 14

June 16 to June 26.

I would be obliged if you could confirm that you have no objections to this proposed visit's taking place.
