In your letter you also mentioned your fear that parents consider study rooms to be unsafe due to lack of supervision. This fear is quite unfounded since all study rooms operated by government, whether in school classrooms, community centres, estate welfare buildings or Urban Services facilities are supervised by trained staff. This includes the 58 classrooms in government primary schools which were opened as temporary study centres from March to July 1977. We are now evaluating the responce to this temporary scheme. We are also considering your most useful survey on "the need for study rooms in resettlement estates." Fay I assure you that in examining this data and planning future facilities we will take into account all the factors affectirg study roon use including location, proximity to housing estates etc. be will also examine the possibility of extending any future study roon scheme to aided primary schools in housing estates in order to provide care facilities. It would not seen possible to make similar arrangements with secondary schools on any large scale, in view of their extensive use for adult education activities.
