1. I had a telephone call this morning from Mr Richard Cess of Brian Clouston and Partners, Landscape and Urban Consultants, about some business which his firm is hoping to secure in Hong Kong. Mr Cass is a friend and neighbour in Durham, where Brian Clouston and Partners have an office. Mr Cass said that his firm had been asked to tender for a large planning project for Taipo and since Hong Kong was a new field for them, they would be grateful for some help. I undertook to make some enquiries and to get back to him or to arrange for someone else to do so.
2. He said that British firms had been asked to submit tenders for a two-prong study for landscape and urban improvement for Taipo. It would cover twelve detailed design areas at Taipo, including housing projects, urban centres and the lay-out of coastal parks. Brian Clouston wished to produce a master plan quickly for consideration by the Hong Kong authorities concerned, and were naturally anxious to get the business. They would need basic material on the area, including population, meteorological, vegetation, economic and other data and wondered if we could point them in the right direction. Mr Cass was not asking us to do any research on his behalf but he would be grateful if we could tell him how he could obtain quick access to the basic materials needed for a planning study. If his firm could get the work it would, to judge from the size of the project, be a good bit of business for the UK in Hong Kong.

I should, of course, be happy to get back to him myself if I could be armed with suggestions for ways in which he could obtain the material he is after.
