for the lifting of the building restrictions currently in force in the mid-levels under the Temporary Restriction of Building Develop- ment (Mid-Levels) Ordinance, due to expire on 31st July 1977, since any redevelopment projects which might get underway after its expiry would not be likely to be completed before the scheme. Proposals regarding that Ordinance are being prepared for sub- mission to the Council separately on 28th June 1977. However, if the undertaking discussed in this memorandum is likely to be significantly delayed, further extension of the restrictions on development will inevitably be proposed.
Public Relations
7
During the construction of the works comprised in this undertaking, traffic conditions in this section of the road will undoubtedly be the subject of some complaints. However, announce- ment of the authorisation of this undertaking is not expected to have significant adverse public relations implications, because it will be generally appreciated that some inconvenience is inevitable if the Mid-Levels road system is to be improved.
Advice Sought
8
Honourable Members will be asked to advise under section 6(1)(a) of the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance (Chapter 130), whether the undertaking shown in the plan at Annex A should be authorised to proceed without modification.
(The Director of Engineering Development (Mr H. D. STEAD) and the Deputy Secretary for the Environment (Mr G. BARNES) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
