Streets (Alteration) Ordinance

(Chapter 130)

ROBINSON ROAD/OLD PEAK ROAD AND ROBINSON

ROAD/GLENEALY JUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS

(Note - This memorandum contains proposals formerly included in memorandum XCC(77)40 which related additionally to "Building Restrictions in Pok Fu Lam and Mid-Levels" and which was withdrawn from the Council's agenda on 7th June 1977. The parts of that memorandum which related to the building restrictions will form the subject of a separate memorandum to be discussed on 28th June 1977).

Among the principal improvements designed to relieve traffic congestion in the Mid-Levels are the reconstruction works proposed at the Robinson Road/Old Peak Road and Robinson Road/Glenealy junctions. These works are covered by a single item in category A of the Public Works Programme.

In accordance with section 3(3) of the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance (Chapter 130), a notice was published in the Government Gazette on 22nd October, 29th October and 5th November 1976 discribing a proposal to carry out major road improvements at the junctions of Robinson Road and Old Peak Road and Robinson Road and Glenealy. The proposed undertaking involves the alteration of the alignment, level and width of Robinson Road between the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanic Gardens and Raimondi College, the construction of a flyover at the Robinson Road and Old Peak Road junction in front of the Albany and on the same general alignment as Robinson Road and the construction of another flyover to carry Glenealy over the existing Robinson Road and link up with the widened portion of Robinson Road as shown on the plan at Annex A. Subject to the authorisation of the undertaking, work is due to begin in August 1977 and be completed in August 1979.
