PURPOSE
To implement the approved recommendations of the Panel of Experts and consultants made in their reports on their special investigations into fill slopes.
To draw up recommendations arising from the reports of the PWD Special Team on their inspection of slopes in the vicinity of squatter areas.
(c) To consider the report of
the working party on the

type of organisation required to inspect and ensure the stability of slope which could affect
populated areas.
PROGRESS MADE & PRESENT POSOTION
(a) The reports of the Panel of Experts and
consultants were submitted in December 1976. Work is in hand to carry out their recommendations before the rainy season

starts.
The investigation by the PWD Special Team has been completed. A total of fifteen reports were submitted. A simple early warning system for squatter areas based on rainfall data and predictions from the Royal Observatory has been worked out. A plan of action based on the warning system is in hand to enable people from potentially dangerous squatter areas to move to temporary accommodation during heavy rains.
(c) The working party reported in December
1976. A Special Duties Unit (Geotechnical control) has been established temporarily in PDHQ.
NEXT QUARTER TARGET$
(a) Continue imple- menting the approved recon- mendations of the Panel of Experts and consultants.
(b) Try out plan of action based on
early warning
system in forth- coming rainy
season.
(c) Establish within PWD the approved
organisation for inspecting and ensuring the
stability of slopes.
